Sandie Viquez Pedlow

Sandie Viquez Pedlow is the former Director of Program Strategies for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) in Washington, DC. Working with national producers, she played a leading role in the development of public television series and specials addressing social issues, children and education, history, the arts and all aspects of American culture. Ms. Pedlow was instrumental in developing CPB programming initiatives which incorporated new media, and community and education outreach to new and diverse audiences. Some of the specials developed under her leadership include Americanos, American Family, Foto Novelas, Wide Angle, Piri Thomas: Every Child is Born a Poet, The New Americans, Coming of Age in Appalachia, Scottsboro: An American Tragedy, Sound and Fury, Breaking the Cycle, The Life and Times of Frida Kahlo, America Rebuilds, Free to Dance: The African American Presence in Modern Dance, and The Kennedy Center Presents among many others.

Ms. Pedlow was a key member of the CPB team that administered the founding of Latino Public Broadcasting. She led Latino producer forums in five major cities seeking input from community leaders and independent producers. She worked with CPB's National Minority Consortium in formulating program strategies to serve the needs of multicultural audiences, and she developed training workshops for emerging producers. Ms. Pedlow's contribution to the U.S. Public Television International Consortium, Latin America Initiative (LAI) was significant. Seeking co-productions with broadcasters in Venezuela, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Chile and U.S. public television stations, she launched The Gipsy Kings, a pilot for a series on international music. Other positions held during her tenure at CPB were Associate Director, Drama, Culture and Arts, and Senior Program Officer.

Prior to CPB, Ms. Pedlow was Special Assistant to the President for International Affairs at South Carolina Educational Television Network (SCETV) where she developed and managed projects in programming, education and cultural exchanges. She led the first U.S. public television exchange with Gosteleradio in the former Soviet Union and conducted workshops, with U.S. producers, at the broadcasting corporations in Finland, Denmark, and Norway. Ms. Pedlow also taught a CPB-sponsored television production workshop at Marpin Television in Dominica. As a producer and manager of SCETV's Writer/Producer Division, she developed documentaries, cultural and public affairs programs, and produced a series on the integration of the European community. She has served on the boards and on the artistic and editorial committees for P.O.V. and American Playhouse. She is a former board member of INPUT, the International Public Television Screening Conference, and currently serves as INPUT's U.S. National Coordinator. Ms. Pedlow is a board member of Latino Public Broadcasting.
